Communications Coordinator: Michelle Byers

Michelle Byers (nee Brown) is the KFN Communications Coordinator. Her role oversees internal/external communications content and event coordination for KFN's departments and leadership.
 
Having completed the Indigenous Community and Governance (ICDG) Diploma Program at the University of Victoria in 2018, she has gained the fundamental skills needed to work in a First Nations government environment. She continues to grow and learn everyday with her amazing team.
 
Michelle has been working with KFN since March of 2015. She was born and raised in the Comox Valley and is a K'ómoks First Nation member. Her ancestry descends from both Kwakwaka'wakw and Coast Salish deities.
 
She is happily married, the second eldest of four siblings and aunt to 3 wonderful niece and nephews. Her parents are Nicole Everson (nee Frank) of We Wai Kai/Kwaguilth/’Namgis and Michael Brown of K'omoks.
 
Her maternal grandparents are Mary Everson (nee Frank) of K'omoks and Wayne Everson (her biological maternal grandparents were Edna (Dolly) Frank: Kwaguilth/’Namgis, and Walter Billy: Wei Wai Kai).
 
Her paternal grandparents were Carole Brown (nee Frank): K'omoks, and Harold Brown. Carole Frank was born to Jacob Frank: K'omoks, and Gladys Frank (nee Mitchell).
 
The work being done in and with Indigenous communities today is so important and Michelle is honored to work for hers.
